Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.
PSG has now won the prestigious trophy on fourteen separate times.
The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.
The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match featuring the French league champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.
However, the southern French side fired twice late to take a shock lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.
In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the dying seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.
In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty win.
Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
